Description:Myeloperoxidase (MPO, E.C. number: 1.11.2.2) belongs to the heme peroxidasefamily. It is highly expressed in leukocytes, neutrophils, and monocytes.MPO playsa crucial role in host defense by generation of potent oxidants. It candestruct various microorganisms including bacteria, fungi, and viruses. The mature myeloperoxidase is a tetramer composed of 2light chains and 2 heavy chains. Molecular weight of the maturemyeloperoxidase is ~150,000 Da. rhMPO is a single chain possessing the sameactivity and enzymatic property as MPO purified from neutrophils. Molecularweight of rhMPO is ~90 kDa.
